Statewide Health Department Survey
The EnTER Program developed and implemented a research study to evaluate the extent of tobacco-use policies in North Carolina Health Departments, and to assess opinions about the benefits and barriers of adopting a 100% tobacco-free policy and Health Directors’ knowledge of the state law on smoking in public places. Results of the study were published in Morbidity and Mortality Weekly Report (MMWR) in 2005. The EnTER Program is currently conducting a follow-up survey on Health Department tobacco use policies. Results from the new study will be available soon.
State-Controlled Building Survey The EnTER Program surveyed Human Resources Directors in NC state agencies to assess the current existence and enforcement of tobacco use policies in government agency buildings. Findings from this study will be available soon.

Indoor Recreational Facilities Survey
EnTER conducted two studies surveying family oriented businesses and facilities where youth are exposed to secondhand smoke including airports, arcade, arenas, bowling centers, family-fun centers, grocery stores, malls and skating rinks. The survey assessed the extent of tobacco-use policies in indoor recreational facilities and the facilities’ overall willingness to enforce a stronger policy. Results from the 1999 and 2002 studies are available online. The EnTER Program has plans to reassess these policies in 2006.
